HB0018 - Aquatic Invasive Species-2 The House Travel Committee passed the aquatic invasives bill out of commitee on a unanimous vote this morning. It was a long hearing with a lot of testimony, including ours. The bill was heavily amended, but the amendments don't change the intent of the bill. The Division of State Parks and Cultural Resources now has a $1.1 million appropriation in the bill to help them staff up to sell inspection stickers at their pay stations, in addition to the existing appropriation for Game and Fish. There is widespread support for this bill from many different interests: irrigators, municipal water managers, anglers, etc. I haven't heard anyone in opposition to this bill yet. The only sticking point may be the appropriation. Support for this bill from constituents, especially with Appropriations Committee members, may well determine its fate.
