Since 1937, Wyoming Wildlife Federation has been the champion of wildlife, conservation, and outdoor access issues in Wyoming. We are the voice for sportsmen and women of Wyoming – advocating on their behalf for healthy, intact, and fully functioning ecosystems; and safeguarding access to outdoor opportunities while finding common ground to ensure the consistent application of science-based management policies. Our Vision

The vision of the Wyoming Wildlife Federation is a Wyoming with well-conserved fish and wildlife populations, healthy habitats, and engaged citizens.


Guided by WWF’s core values, the Executive Director oversees all aspects of Wyoming’s most important conservation organization: working with 7 dynamic staff, leading consensus among disparate stakeholders – commercial, non-profit and governmental; and harnessing the collective power of a team of 12+ dedicated conservation ambassadors from across the state. With the Board of Directors, the Executive Director helps craft a Strategic Plan; builds a budget to support that plan, and leads the effort to secure roughly $600,000 in funding from foundations, individual donors and corporate sponsors.

Reports To

Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors through quarterly meetings of the full Board, periodic meetings with various Board Committees (Executive, Finance, Organizational Development, Philanthropy, and Policy/Programs), and regular updates. While each Board member is ready to be actively engaged in WWF’s success, the Executive Director will work most directly with the Board Chair.

Core Responsibilities

Philanthropy – 40% of time
Ensure WWF is raising the funds necessary to accomplish organizational goals, and has plans and processes in place to continue reaching goals moving forward.

Collaborate with the Board to develop and implement a fundraising plan that achieves organizational financial sustainability and a diversified funding portfolio.

Cultivate and strengthen relationships with funding organizations and individual donors.

Effectively represent and communicate WWF’s mission, goals, programs, and campaigns to the BOD, members, and the public in Wyoming.

Programmatic Leadership – 30% of time
Collaborate with the Board to set organizational strategic direction, and keeps the Board updated regarding progress toward this direction.

Lead and manage staff in advancing organizational strategic direction, and play an appropriate role in advancing this work.

Operations & Management – 20% of time
Manage organizational budget and finances, and ensure Board understands and has opportunity for input on all relevant financial information and decisions.

Manage administrative and operational procedures, HR protocol, and set clear expectations for staff behavior and norms.

Supervise and manage staff, exercising good judgment in dealing with staff issues and relationships.

Support the effective operations of Board committees, collaborate with the Board on recruiting and orienting new board members, and report to and communicate with the Board regarding relevant organizational activities.

Communications – 10% of time
Effectively represent and communicate the WWF’s mission, goals, programs, and campaigns to the Board, WWF members, and the public in Wyoming.

Ensure the implementation of a communications strategy that integrates and advances programmatic, development, membership, and branding goals.

Desired Qualifications

Skills and experience in nonprofit conservation advocacy, organizational leadership, management, communications, and fundraising.

An understanding of conservation, public lands, sporting, and wildlife issues in Wyoming.

Highly motivated, self-directed, and capable of exercising sound, independent judgment.

Demonstrated ability in leading people and working collaboratively with a diverse set of constituents and stakeholders for the achievement of common goals.

Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle complex situations; strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities/activities, delegate effectively, and motivate others.

Skills necessary for successful fundraising and financial management, including identifying, developing, and sustaining new sources of financial support, preparing budgets and financial reports, and working with a board of directors.

Strong public speaking and writing skills, and ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of audiences, including the media.

Proficient with technology applications and basic office systems.

Willingness and ability to travel frequently to attend meetings/events, including evenings and weekends as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience, in the range of $65,000 to $75,000 per year. Benefits offered include a health insurance stipend, paid vacation and sick time, and paid holidays.

This is a full-time, year-round position, with the expectation of a 40-hour workweek, on average, but will require work and travel outside of regular working hours and a flexible schedule to meet the responsibilities of this role. The preferred location of this position is Lander, WY.
