Want to make a tangible difference for mule deer near Lander?

There's a need for habitat improvements in critical mule deer habitat along the Lander Front. Step one in this process is collecting bitterbrush seeds from local thriving bitterbrush plants to provide seeds for future planting projects to improve mule deer forage.

Join us on July 24, 2024 at 5 pm south of Lander to beat brush and collect seeds for future projects.

The bitterbrush at our project sites looks excellent for collecting seed this year. All volunteers and staff will meet 17 miles south of Lander on Highway 28. The meeting place is a large pavement pull-out on the right as you drive south from Lander before the main Red Canyon lookout.

Thanks to support from the LOR Foundation, there will be post-project burgers and beverages to thank volunteers for attending the event after work in the middle of the work week.

This year's bitterbrush collection project was a smashing success! The Lander BLM folks were hoping to gather 7 pounds of seeds, and everyone managed to wrangle over 19 POUNDS of bitterbrush seed for future habitat improvement projects for wildlife on the Lander Front.

We cannot thank all of the volunteers enough for making the project a success.

All of these seeds are now going to be cleaned and germinated before they get planted in 2025.

Stay tuned for more information if you would like to be involved in these kinds of projects in the future!
