Rock Springs, (Oct. 7, 2025) - Late last week the Bureau of Land Management declared its intent to amend the Rock Springs Resource Management Plan to comply with a number of recent Executive Orders. The plan was implemented in late 2024 after a lengthy public process that included a 120-day comment period and a task force assembled by the Governor to work through controversial aspects of the plan. The Rock Springs RMP guides management for 3.6 million acres of public lands in Southwest Wyoming where Wyomingites and others hunt, fish, and recreate.
“We recognize the RMP isn’t perfect, but it was the product of well over a decade of hard work and ultimately strikes a good balance between conserving many cherished landscapes, including the Greater Little Mountain Area, and allowing responsible development that employs so many locals,” said Nat Paterson, Policy Director for the Wyoming Wildlife Federation
BLM land managed under the Rock Springs Field Office has significant importance culturally, ecologically, and economically. The WWF will be working with our partners, local community members, and others to ensure balanced land management measures are carried forth in an amended plan.
The BLM has opened a 30-day scoping comment period, which will likely extend further to allow for scheduling of an in-person meeting. The BLM is encouraging all stakeholders to make their voices heard.
