Weather observations
Time: 5-10 minutes/weather check
Materials: rain gauge, thermometer, ruler
Activity: Set up a weather station that can be easily accessed from the school. Check daily or weekly, noting the weather subjectively (e.g. sunny, cloudy, raining, snowing), the amount of any precipitation, and the temperature. Record your data as a color chart or graph to track the seasons (blue for colder, red for hotter), on a wall weather report, or in a class weather journal. Observe changes throughout the year. Imaginative play bonus: Kids can take turns being the newscast weather announcer for the day.
