Will it float?
Time: 10-15 minutes
Materials: large container with water
Activity: Ask kids what makes something float. Tell them they will observe what floats and doesn’t and try to find patterns. Have kids collect items that they think will and won’t float. Test each item in the container of water. You can add some items for variety or challenge. What did you observe? Objects that are heavy for their size usually sink because they are dense. Objects that are light for their size usually float. Talk about how some seeds float so that they can be spread by water.
