Make a migration

Time: 15-20 minutes

Materials:  None

Activity: Observe visible groups of migrating birds (ducks, geese) if possible. Use this as a jumping off point to ask why they are moving. Talk about migration, which is animals moving from place to place to avoid the cold and snow of winter and coming back in the spring. Animals that migrate in Wyoming include birds like ducks and geese, deer and pronghorn (they go up and down the mountains), and even monarch butterflies. Pick an area to be a summer area and a winter area. Pretend the seasons are changing and move between your areas. Science bonus: Talk about what gets in the way of migrating animals and add obstacles to your route.
