What’s of note for sportsmen in our legislature?

Between bugling for elk and long hikes in the high country for mule deer, the staff of Wyoming Wildlife Federation has been hard at work keeping up with our legislatures happenings. As interim committee meetings are happening around the state here are a few things of note for sportsmen and women.

JOINT TRAVEL, RECREATION, WILDLIFE AND CULTURAL RESOURCES INTERIM COMMITTEE– Next meeting is tentatively Nov 6th &7th in Cheyenne.

Here are a few draft bills being considered:

JOINT AGRICULTURE, STATE AND PUBLIC LANDS AND WATER RESOURCES COMMITTEE – Next meeting tentatively Oct 18th in Douglas Wyoming

Here are a few topics and bills of note being considered:

  • Stranded State Lands Inventory and Valuation
  • State-led Collaborative for Federal Lands Management Process and Programs
    • This topic developed a bill (18LSO-0066) that was open for comment on at the last meeting in Dubois WY. Its purpose was to create a state-led committee to look at federal land issues, its broad and vague language and goals were alarming to many of us and after a long period of comments the committee decided to rework the bill. This will be a piece of legislation that Wyoming Wildlife Federation will watch closely for the 2018 session.

WWF will be present at the 2018 Wyoming Legislative Session, speaking for the sportsmen and
women of this State. We believe in the definition of hunter as a person who not only enjoys our States beautiful public lands and wildlife but who does their part to protect and pass down our incredible resources and heritage.

While policy is often fraught with unintelligible verbiage and often so vague and obscure, it is hard to tell exactly what it is about…it is the “stone tablets” of Wyoming’s wildlife and wild lands heritage. It can dictate how much funding our Game and Fish agencies get to study and protect our wildlife or it can enact into law the futures of our wild spaces. We will be working hard to keep you up to date with the many happenings of our States legislature that covers both concerns and initiatives to support, for sportsmen.
