Create a rainstorm
Time: 5-10 minutes
Materials: none
Activity: Thunderstorms, rain with lightning and thunder happen as the weather gets warmer. We’re going to go outside and make our own thunderstorm. Lead verbally and physically: First, we start with a very light rain - rub hands together. Then, the rain drops get a little harder - tap two fingers on the palm of the other hand. The rain gets even harder - snap or lightly tap fingers. There is lots of wind - cup and uncup your hands and blow into them. Now the rain is really coming down - slap hands on thighs. There’s even hail - clap hands. The wind is getting harder - blow again with cupped hands. Now here comes the thunder and lightning - stomp feet a few times while clapping hands. Now the storm is starting to die off - just claps. The rain gets less - thigh taps. And less - finger snaps or taps. It’s just a few little drops now - tap two fingers on the palm of the other hand. Now it’s just a drizzle - rub hands together. And the storm is done - hands up.
