Rhythm matching
Time: 5-20 minutes
Materials: None
Activity: Locate two sticks for each kid and a surface that they can tap on. Tap out beats and have the kids replicate the beats with their sticks. Kids can also take turns tapping a beat to be followed. Nature bonus: Talk about how different species of woodpeckers have different rhythms that they tap when they are drilling in trees for bugs. Listen to recordings of Wyoming woodpeckers such as downy woodpeckers, northern flickers, and redhead woodpeckers.
