Build a beaver dam
Time: 15-30 minutes
Materials: None
Activity: Find a safe trickle of water. Talk about how beavers create dams so that they can have ponds to build their lodges in. Beavers are constantly building and repairing their dams. Dams are built out of sticks, mud, and plants. Tell the kids that they will be a lodge of beavers and will build a dam. Let them collect materials and create the dam. Ask what worked well and what didn’t. Make sure you return your dam materials to nature before you leave. Alternatively, create a mini-dam on a slope and test it with a hose or jug of water.
